When you're ready, click [[Next]]Hello, $name $lastname....Good luck. You'll need it.
Click [[Start]]It's a tasteless, dull morning at Blacklake Middle. You are poking your pencil into your eraser as the teacher drones on about a lesson that you have no interest in. Suddenly, the door opens and abrubtly slams closed, causing you to snap your pencil lead. You look up at the person who just entered. Blake Northfall.
You [[throw pencil]] or [[drop pencil]]You throw your pencil at Blake and miss her by a hair. She whips her head around and glares daggers at you.
"$lastname, go pick that pencil up right now and don't let it happen again," scolds the teacher.
You get up with a huff, walk over to the pencil and [[pick it up]]
'Hmm, maybe you shouldn't have thrown the pencil.'

You walk back to your desk and collapse into your seat.
"Ms. Northfall, please take your seat. I'll send you to the attendance office for the third time this week, might I say, in a moment." The teacher informs while giving her a pointed look.
But Blake would never goes to the attendance office that morning. Maybe never again. Because a few seconds later all the lights flick out, engulfing the school in and inky blackness that not even light can penetrate.
You [[hide under desk]] or [[run to the door]]You duck down under your desk as kids start to panic. The teacher attempts to calm her students, but her voice is none to comforting.
Next thing you know, there's a hand covering your mouth, and you're dragged away into the dark before you can even [[scream|Maze]]You run to where you think the door is, considering the dark, as kids start to freak out. The teacher's attempt at being reassuring was not being very reassuring at all.
Before you can really get anywhere you trip and [[fall|Maze]]
Then something grabs your leg and drags you into nothing.
You open your eyes and blink a few times. Then you slowly come to a sitting position and stand up.
you [[look around]]You keep your eyes closed and pretend your still out cold.
"Well, well, seems someone does not wish to wake, I suppose this will have to be done the hard way..."
Immediately you feel a sting on your cheek. Almost like you were poked by a pin. Then you feel it again. And again, and again. Sharp stings and pricks litter your entire body. You start to shake uncontrobably as you scream out in agony.
You shoot up to a sitting position, breathing heavily as if you've just woken up from a terrifying nightmare.
You check yourself for any damage, but oddly enough, there is none. So you rise to your feet on shaky legs.
"Nice of you to join us."
You quickly [[look around]]
You look around, seeing some oddly familiar faces. You see three girls and three boys, all of which have been in your class for a few years, but you've never spoken a word to them.
Your gaze then falls to your surroundings. You seem to be in a clearing. A dead clearing. The trees that encase the area are gnarled and black skeletons. The colorless grass is crunchy and dry to the touch, and the air smells foul. The sky is a lifeless grey void with a sickly green tinge.
Everything is dead. Discarded by time. Merely a shadow of what it used to be long ago.
"Now that you've all awoken, let's take you one step closer to your death." The voice cackled.
Alarm bells [[ring]] loud in your head."Death? Say what?! Where the heck are we?! Where the heck are you? Why are we here?! What do you want?! Death?! What?! I'm not sticking around to be like the dead deer I saw on the side of the road this morning!!" A blue eyed lad named Grazer Lippencott yowls. He then sprints torward the skeletal tree line. Next thing you know, there's a booming thud and Grazer's flat on his back, groaning and muttering curses under his breath.
"Son of a peanut butter cracker..." is the only thing you can decipher of his grumbling.
You [[ask if he's okay]], [[snicker]], or [[remain silent.]]"Are you okay?!" you holler across the clearing, feeling it echo off the trees.
"Oh yeah. I'm all pink unicorns and pastel rainbows right now. Cause smacking your forehead off an invisible wall feels quite pleasant."
"Then maybe you shouldn't have run into the wall then you dingbat," a dark haired guy named Gene Zimmerman primly sniffs.
"Yes Gene, because I could see the invisible wall, and purposefully ran into it."
"Oh just shut your big head!"
The two start to squabble loudly. Everyone looks back and forth as cringe worthy insults are exchanged, like a cat would watch a toy swing in front of its face.
"MUKAH!"
The world became silent. No one could make a sound. No one could open their mouths.
[[Literally.|Silence]]
You snicker quietly to yourself as he whispers many differnt curses.
"What are you laughing at?"
"Oh you know, just the fact you decided to give the the wall a high five with your face."
"It's invisible! How did you expect me to see it?!"
"Well, you could've remained calm instead of running around like a monkey on steriods."
You hear some of the kids chuckle very sofly as to not let Grazer hear them.
"You dunce. That still doesn't explain how I was supposed to see something that's invisible!!!"
"Why you--" You get cut off.
"MUKAH!!!"
Your voice goes silent. So does everyone elses. No one is able to [[speak.|Silence]]
You remain silent as he starts to brood on his back and grumble interesting phrases.
"Well, are you gonna get off your lazy butt or what Lippencott?" remarked a girl named Blake Northfall. The girl from class earlier. She has dark hair with purple streaks through it.
"For your information, my butt is not lazy. It just hurts, because, if you hadn't noticed, I just face planted a wall I can't even see, which caused me to fall on my so called 'lazy' butt." replied grazer with some sass.
"Then maybe you should invest in a pair of glasses you bonehead."
"Well maybe you should invest in some--" Grazer is cut off by a thundering voice that shakes the ground.
"MUKAH!!"
Everything goes silent. No one can speak. Not just because of the shock of hearing the loud voice, but because they physically can't. Their mouths wont [[open.|Silence]]Everything becomes mute. None of you can make a sound. You desperately try to make some kind of noise, but there's nothing. Just infinite silence in an unknown place.
Abrubtly everyone gets their voice back all at once, Causing the drab landscape to erupt into chaos. Everyone starts talking all at once, all the noises fuse together to create one deafening roar. You plug your ears.
"SILENCE!!'
Everyone freezes. You dubiously remove you're hands from your ears.
"Enough of this foolishness. This is absurd."
Blake, a girl with dark hair with purple streaks, talks back.
"You're absurd you ... whatever you are! None of this makes any sense."
The voice lets out a deep, guttural [[growl.]]Where you are is not a place, it does not exist in a physical form. You're inside a realm where shadows thrive and sinister wickeds roam.
Suddenly, a raspy voice pulls you from the gloom.
"Welcome to the Maze of Horrors, mortals...It would be wise of you to open your eyes and <div class="Color">get up.</div>
You [[open your eyes]] or [[pretend to still be unconscious]]
"If one more sound is produced, you will all be without tongues."
Its voice is low and demonic. It's full of menace, and there's something wrong with it's tone. It doesn't sound like a tone that should even exist.
Wrong or not, it made everyone shut up. No one is talking now. No one dared. Not even Blake.
Without warning, three doors blink into existence right in front of you. Just doors with nothing behind them. It seems as if they dont lead to anything at all.
"This is the Maze of Horrors. Choose right, you live. Choose wrong, you die. But be warned, only one of you will make it out alive."
You feel your heart nearly stop in your chest. 'Only one...this has to be some bad dream. I have to wake up soon. This can't be possible. Just...why?' you think. Despair sinks like a sword in your heart.
You turn to [[look]] at the other kids.
You look into the eyes of the others, seeing their terror mirror your own. None of you want to choose, to make that life or death decision. However, it seems you don't have a choice. You're all confused, why are you here, where is here, where and what is this, and what's with the voice? All question you can't answer. The worst part is that all but one of you is going to die, and there's nothing you can do about it. You all don't want this to be real, you wish this is just a terrible nightmare. Though no matter how much wishing you do, you can't change the face of reality. All you can really do now is.......[[Choose.]]You all turn torwards the three doors. They loom over you like a collosal shadow.
The first door has the words, "NOT SCARY AT ALL" carved jaggedly into the dark birch. A lithe, fair-skinned girl with blonde hair named, Willow Greene, warily walks up to the door and delicately places her ear to it.
Abrubtly, it starts to shake and rattle with a disturbing amount of force and violence. So much, that you're afraid it might fly off its hinges. Willow is flung back from the door with intense power. She lands on her back with a small gasp, having all the air forced out of her lungs. As she lay there attempting to regain her breath, the door stops shaking. Just like that. A girl with fierce green eyes and wild red curls named, Pheonix (Nix) Woulfe, goes up to the wheezing girl and helps her up.
"I think it's safe to say that we stay at least 5 feet away from the doors," you anounce while taking a few steps back. Everyone [[agrees.]]
At a safe five foot distance away, you turn your attention to the second door.
It merely has the word "SCARY" carved into it. It's not quite as jagged as the last one.
The door used to be painted white, but now the paint is peeling and the wood of the door is severely cracked. It looks old and weather beaten. Like it has been through Hades and back.
Then a bizarre sound fills the air. It's coming from behind the door. It could be compared to nails on a chalk board, except ten times more eerie. The sound ran down the length of the door, you can see how the wood is slightly pushed out and cracked where the thing making the noise drags something down the center of the door. Abrubtly it stops.
'Strange....really strange...,' you [[think.]]Finally, you all look at the third door. It looks like a normal, oak door. Well, except for the words "VERY SCARY" carved into it. Not nearly as ragged as the last two. You wait for a minute or two, and nothing happens. So, one by one you walk up to it, (breaking the precaution) and press your ears against the hard wood. You can hear faint whispering. Like a dozen people are all sharing a dark secret. But the whispering seems off. It doesn't sound like a voice produced by a human.
Slowly, carfully, you all back away on anxious feet, and your eyes meet yet again.
"Do not be deceived by what you see. For there's always a trick to a clue. Make the wrong choice, a scream will not be the only thing you do," said the ominious voice from before.
No one said a word. Thinking back to the earlier threat, no one thought it was wise. So, you all acknowledge the warning and make a dreaded decision.
You pick [[the first door]](The one that rattled),[[the second door]] (The one with the scratching noise), or [[the third door.]] (The one with the whispers)
Do you wish to proceed through this door?
[[Yes]]
[[No, I want to go back.|think.]]Do you wish to proceed through this door?
[[Yes|sudden death]]
[[No, I want to go back.|think.]]Do you wish to proceed through this door?
[[Yes|definite sudden death]]
[[No, I want to go back.|think.]]Grazer steps forward to put his hand on the door knob to open it, but before his hand even reaches it, it swings open and bops him in his face.
Surprisingly, he manages to keep his balance.
"You know what guys, I don't know how I feel about going through this door."
They ignore his sarcasm and one-by-one file in to the dimly lit room. The groups hears a slam, and you all snap back around to find that the door is gone. As you slowly turn back around, you notice that it's not a room at all. It's a cast iron cage.
Your blood runs cold. Then there's a growl. A whimper sounds among the group. The feeble light goes out. Casting everything in pitch black. You hear one of the girls scream, the sound of flesh tearing. More screams. It's the only sound. A sharp pain, a warmth. Then there's nothing. You lose all sense, and float away into an unknown.
You died! Congratulations!
Click [[back|think.]] to try again. You walk up to the aged door and lightly push it open with your foot. It creaks and limply swings open. You file into what looks like a decently sized shed. Perfect for 7 people. The shed is full of gardening tools, but they are drenched with a dark red liquid. You're not quite sure what it is, but judging off of how this is going so far, you're gonna guess it's blood. There is a scream from across the shed, though you can't see anything, and terror juts through your body.
You all frantically look around. Then one of the 'bloody' rakes falls over, causing you all to jump. Soon all the tools are falling over and they begin to shake on the dirt floor.
While your attention is on the posessed gardening tools, a withering shadow figure emerges from the corner of the shed. It's holding bloody hedge clippers.
It floats torwards your rigid figure. You don't even know it's there until there is a blinding pain in your back. You look down to see something sharp sticking out of your stomach. The last thing you see is everyone's horrified faces as the world fades out.
You die!! Congrats! -_-
Click [[back|think.]] to try again.Ash, a pale guy with black hair, walks up to the door. He puts his ear against it, and his silver eyes widen ever so slightly, but quickly return back to normal. He swiftly removes his ear from the door and turns the handle. He gives a firm shove and it swings ajar effortlessly. You notice at least a hundred pairs of glowing, circular eyes of yellow-orange. They resemble the dying embers of a fire. Everyone gathers in the doorway.
Grazer pops his head in behind you and says, "Hey, is there a light switch in here? Because I don't know about you guys, but I'm not a fan of the creepy eyes staring at us."
"Yeah, maybe somewhere," you reply.
You turn around and feel for a light switch. Once you find it you flick it on. To your surprise, it's a long hallway of mirrors that meets your eyes.
You all tentatively [[enter the hallway]]."You have now entered The Maze. Seven of you have come in. Six will leave the hall of portals. In the next room, six of you will go in, five of you will come out, and so on and so forth. One must die or stay behind in each room until only two of you are left. In each world you must find another door or doors to go through and continue. Those are the rules. Break them and you all automatically lose. Farewell mortals. Enjoy the rest of your moments alive, because time is quickly running out."
The voice then goes silent. You have an uncanny feeling you won't hear from it for a while.
Ash's voice breaks the suffocating silence, "Why don't we all introduce ourselves since we don't really know each other well."
You all [[nod]] in agreement.Grazer pipes up first.
"Hi. I'm Grazer Lippencott, some call me Gray," Grazer says with a bright smile. He's decently tall with tan skin, fawn colored hair, and electric blue eyes.
"I'm Blake Northfall," Blake says flatly. She's average height and well built, with tanish skin, dark brown hair with purple highlights, and has ember colored eyes.
"My names Willow Greene," she says serenely. Willow is a lithe girl with fair-skin, blonde hair with dark undertones, and blue-green eyes like the Mediterranean Sea.
"My name is Phoenix Woulfe, but most call me Nix," Nix says in a gentle tone. Nix is a short little girl. She has long flowy red curls, pale skin, so many freckles that it's like the stars in the sky, and fierce green eyes.
"Well, i'm Gene Zimmerman. I'm sure you all knew that," he says. Gene is short for his age. His face makes him look arrogant. He also has pitch black hair and cold blue eyes.
"And I'm Ash Radcliff," he says in a monotone voice. He has extremely pale skin, and is tall and lanky. He has near black hair and piercing silver eyes.
[[You go last.]]
"I'm $name $lastname. But call me $nick." You say normally. You have $hc hair and $ec eyes.
With all the introductions done, the group comes to a silent agreement and start walking down the hallway. As you're walking you see something dance in the mirror. You turn to look, but see nothing out of place. It happens a few more times, and it starts to get aggravating. Finally you get sick of it, and you turn to face your reflection, and what you see makes the blood in your veins turn to ice. Your reflection isn't doing what you're doing. It has a sinister smile that spreads unnaturally wide across it's face.
"Guys..." you whisper without taking your eyes from the mirror.
Suddenely, your reflection speaks.
"Heyo, $name," it says with a smile still etched on it's face. Then it [[steps]] out of the mirror. You slowly back away, feeling your back bump into the mirrors behind you.
You dare to sneak a glance at the others. You see they're all in positions similair to your own. You instantly snap your head back to yourself that's not yourself. It still has that wicked smile on it's face. What scares you the most it the fact that it looks exactly like you. However, looking a little closer, you see that it's not right. It's whole demeanor is darker and it's clothes hang in tattered rags off it's deformed body. It's teeth are sharp as knives, and you realize how long it's nails are.
"WhY DO yOu LOoK sO scArEd $name? I aM yOU aFtEr AlL," It says with a small tilt of it's head. It's voice is jagged and seems to come from somewhere faraway, as if it hasn't been used in years.
"Y-you are not me. S-so w-what are you?" Your voice trembles uncontrolably.
"I'm $evil. A SHaMe YOu CaN't REcOgNizE tHe DEmOn fRoM inSIdE yOU'rE OwN hEAd." It's face suddenly goes slack and it stares at you with dead, $ec eyes, comepletely unresponsive. Like all it's inner lights just flicked off.
Suddenly, your vision goes black for a second, and when it returns to normal, your 'reflection' is coming at you with a crazed look it it's eyes.
[[Everything happens in slow motion.]]You barely manage to dive out of the way. You stand back up and face the dark version of yourself, who is standing motionlessly hunched over. It's gone completely slack again, so when your vision flashes out and then back in, you're prepared for it's charge. When it nears, you whip you're leg out to trip it. However, it never trips.
It flashes out of sight, leaving you dumbfounded.
"What--" you're quickly cut off.
"I'm InsIdE YoUR hEaD reMeMBeR??? I KnOw whAt YOu'Re gOiNg tO do BEfoRe YoU evEN dO iT." It's deranged voice sounds from behind you, and you're unable to move out of the way in time before it crashes into you with brute force, knocking you down. You knock your chin on the concrete floor, causing a painful jolt to go through your body. You cry out as it pushes the side of your face into the floor, it's claws digging into your skin. You feel warm blood leak from the puntures as it cackles.
"YoU ALwAys wErE WeAK," it rasps into your ear.
You struggle against it, but to no avail.
Then you hear a river of [[screams]]What follows the screams is the sound of shattering glass.
"Aaaww maaaann, now I'm gonna have seven years of bad luck!!" Grazer's voice rings out over the chaotic sounds.
"Hah! Looks like you missed me. You really need to work on your aim Gray. How do you expect to play soccer with a pitiful kick like that?" a voice similiar to Grazer's taunts. You can only assume it's his shadow self.
"And you really need to work on your people skills dude. No wonder you hide yourself in the dark, you're not fit for the light of society you defective pig!" You hear Grazer fire back.
But that's all you get to hear because you feel a throbbing pain in your head that drowns everything out. Your vision blurs from the pressure of your head being pressed against the stone floor. You feel frusteratingly hopless.
"Tch, pAThEtIC. DidN'T eVEn pUt UP a DEcEnT fIgHT," your dark self jeers.
It's words cause something in you to [[snap.]]Anger boils up in your chest from out of nowhere. You grit your teeth and grab the thing's wrist that's holding your face down. You quickly snap it's wrist with a quick twist of your own and fling yourself up with all your strength. Your shadow self leaps back with a hiss. Then it runs at you again.
You frantically look around for something, anything, to use as a weapon. Instead you lock eyes with Blake, who seems to have already defeated her shadow self. You look at her in desperation.
<<if $mean is true>>But Blake haughtily turns her head away as she says, "I guess maybe you shouldn't have thrown that pencil."
With an angry huff directed mostly torwards yourself, you [[turn]] back to your 'twin.'
<<elseif $mean is false>>Her eyes widen slightly and she picks up a sizable shard of glass. She turns it over in her hand a few times before tossing it to you. You deftly snatch it out of the air [[turn|turnone]] to face your inner demon.
<</if>>As your shadow self charges at you. You will yourself to think, "I'll dodge left." But when it gets close, you dodge to the right without even thinking aout it. So as you go right, the thing thinks you're going left and veers slightly to the left. Though it soon realizes it was out-smarted, and it goes crashing into the mirror. Shards of glass fly everywhere and you make sure you're well out of range.
The thing then pulls itself from what's left of the mirror. You notice splinters of glass poking out of it like a porcupine. It stares down at itself.
It slowly turns to face you as it starts to slowly dwindle into nothing.
It looks up in disbelief, as if not having considered the chance that it could be defeated.
"You're not real. You're just a possibility of what I will never become," you grit out in a hard tone.
Your shadow self gives you a peculiar look that soon turns into a desolate stare, it's body going limp once again. It then starts to shuffle backwards into the mirror. But before it completely disappears, you hear it say in a broken whisper,"DoN'T lOoK iNTo ThE daRK...." Then it's gone.
[[You let out a breath.]]
As it charges at you, you're ready for it. You barely avoid its attack. You attempt to strike it, but it flicks away before you even come close. This happens a few more times in a never ending circle. Then you try a different strategy. Instead of dodging its charge, you let it take you down, feeling its claws rake deep into your side. You eat your pain as you land on your back with it on top of you.
It starts to chortle and open its mouth for the killing blow, but it's movements stop short. Then it slowly starts to dwindle. You push it off you and stand up. Your shadow self slowly gets to its feet as it stares down at the shard of glass penetrating from it's chest.
It looks up in disbelief, as if it never considered the chance that it could be defeated.
"You're not real. You're just a possibility of what I will never become," you grit out in a hard tone.
Your shadow self gives you a peculiar look that soon turns into a desolate stare, it's body going limp once again. It then starts to shuffle backwards into the mirror. But before it completely disapears, you hear it say in a broken whisper,"DoN'T lOoK IntO ThE dArK...." Then it's gone.
[[You let out a breath.]]You're relieved that that's finally over. You turn torwards the way you were all originally walking, only to see that someone's still fighting. Gene Zimmerman, and it seems his doppleganger has the upper hand.
"Guys don't just stand there, help me!!" he shouts, nearly getting a shard of glass to the throat.
"Give us one good reason why we should help you? You've never been nice to any of us in school," Grazer said with indignance.
"Wha-? Man, I never meant any of it to any of you! I was just messin' with yah! Lighten up! Come on, I'm struggling here!!" he pleads.
Willow goes to help him, but all on it's own, your arm shoots out in front of her, preventing her from going any further.
"$name, what-" she asks, confused.
Nix comes up beside her. You two share a look. She nods.
"Someone has to die here right?" Nix says, more like a statment than a question.
Gene looks at you all in horror, betrayl ebbed within his stormy eyes. "Guys, you can't be serious...."
[[No one says a word.]]While Gene is distracted, his shadow self rams him to the ground and bites down into his neck with a sickening crunch.
You see a few others flinch, but still, they remain where they are as the thing drags Gene's bleeding, lifeless body into the mirror.
You all stand there, thinking about what you just let happen. However, your brooding is cut short as the ground starts to shake and the ceiling starts to crumble.
You all start to run to the end of the hall. With the ground still shaking, you come to a stop. In front of you is a staircase that spirals down into shadows, and another that spirals up into a soft, blue light.
You go [[up]] or [[down]]You all herd up the steps in a flurry. When you arrive at the top, you see an open doorway. Beyond the threshold there appears to be a light blue, misty sky with a foggy bottom.
You all gather around the door to look out. There's no way of telling exactly what's out there.
Even so, you all [[enter it.]]You all blunder down the staircase until you reach the bottom. There's a small trap door with a foggy blue light leaking out from beneath the sides.
Blake goes up and pulls it open. You all look down into it. It's simply a blue landscape covered in mist.
You all warily look at eachother and [[enter it.]]You're falling through the air to the approaching blue ground. A wave of panic shoots through you. You can hear Grazer yelling about how he doesn't want to die, as you hit the ground. Only it's not solid ground. You land in about two feet of water.
You look around. It's endless water in every direction.
"Now I'm soaked! I look like I just wet myself," Grazer whines like a five year old.
"So do the rest of us Gay! Get over it," Blake snaps back.
"My name is not 'Gay.' It's Gray. G-r-a-y. Graaaaay," He emphasizes.
"Sorry. I forgot to put my filter up," she rolls her eyes.
"Okay-," Grazer was about to fire back, but gets cut off by Willow's light voice.
"Hey, are those mountains?" she asked.
You all looked to where she was pointing. There is a grey haze on the horizon.
You [[look closer.]]"That wasn't there a few moments ago," you pipe up.
"Weird.." you hear Ash mutter.
All your eyes are on the horizon.
"Is it just me, or are those 'mountains' getting closer?" Gray asks.
"Yes Lippencott. The mountains have sprouted legs and are walking torwards us in greeting," Blake remarks sarcastically.
Surprisingly he stays silent.
"What, no comeback?" She gibes.
"Those aren't mountains," is all he says.
"What do you mea-" she stops short, coming to a realization. Her eyes widen to the size of saucers.
You realize he's right. They aren't mountains. It's a wave.
[[You look all around you.]]Waves are coming in from all sides. Dark, monsterous, looming walls of menace that are now no more than half a mile away and closing in quickly. Dread strikes you like a slap to the face. You've all got to do something quickly, before it's too late.
"Everyone, start looking around for a door! We have five minutes tops!" Ash instructs, somehow calm in this dire situation.
You [[look left]] or [[look right.]]You search around in the water but find nothing.
[[Look right.|look right.]]You look around in the area to your right. Just when you think there's nothing, your foot comes down on something with a metal bang. You crouch down into the water and blindly feel around where you had set your foot.
Your hand catches on some sort of handle. You attempt to pull it, but it doesn't budge.
"Guys! I think I got something over here!" you holler to the others.
They all hurry over.
"I think there's another trap door here, but I can't get it open," you inform. The waves are now about a quarter mile away. You start to feel panic rise in your throat.
"Okay, everyone grab on and pull as hard as you can. Unless you'd liketo make aquaintances with that incoming tsunami."
Everyone quickly grabs on to the handle.
[[Pull]]
You all grunt and pull with all your might, but the door only gives a low groan of resistence.
[[Pull harder.]]
You pull even harder, feeling the metal reluctantly start to creak open. But the water is only 70 yards away. When you finally manage to pry it open, it's less than 20. The wave seems to be taunting you with its power.
"Everyone in, GO GO GO!!" Blake yells as she holds the door open, her hand making a gesture signaling for everybody to hurry up.
One by one you all file down into the water. You're the last one left. The waves are less than 10 yards away.
"What about yo-" suddenly she pushes your shoulders down hard, forcing you under the water and into the door without a word. The last thing you see up through the murky water is Blake's deserted stare, and her being swept away by the unforgiving waves as she closes the door in your face.
Now in a shadowy twilight of water, you swim in a random direction.
After swimming for about a minute, your lungs start to burn for air.
Just when they're about to give out, you see a light.
[[You frantically swim torwards it.]]You emerge from the water a few agonizing moments later, gasping and panting.
Once you catch your breath, you look at your surroundings.
You seem to be in an extremely dark cave. Shadows dance off the walls and you feel as if they're trying to lure you in to there amoral grasp.
The only source of light in this gloomy place is the small, neon green, luminescent stalactites hanging from the ceiling.
You're so mesmerized you don't even feel the person come up behind you.
Someone places a hand on your shoulder causing you to jump five feet in the air and--
[[Go slap happy]] or [[Run]]You whip around and slap the person square in the face with a resounding thwack!
"Ow!! What the heck $name?! It's just me!!" Grazer yells accusingly.
"Sorry. My hand slipped. You really shouldn't sneak up on people like that." you reply flatly.
"I wasn't even sneaking!! Have you heard me walk? I'm like a depressed elephant tromping around. And maybe if you weren't prancing around in la-la land like a drunk unicorn over the stupid green things, you would've heard me coming!"
"Drunk unicorn, seriously?" you raise an eyebrow.
"Not the point," he glares at you.
"I know but, really?"
"Just shut your pie-hole. We need to get back to the others," He says in a dry voice. He turns and walks in the other direction.
[[Follow him.]]
<<set $slap to true>>You throw the hand off your shoulder and bolt.
"Where in the name of Lord Butternut squash are you going $name?" you hear a familiar voice question.
You skid to a halt on the rocky ground and sheepishly walk back to the person.
"Uhh, sorry Gray. I thought you were like, Bigfoot or something," you say, scratching behind your neck.
"Yeah. I'm Bigfoot and that rock over there is my old pal Sasquatch," he points over his shoulder with a wry grin. "Anyway, lets go. We have to get back to the others."
He then turns and walks away,
[[Follow him.]]
<<set $slap to false>>You follow Grazer through a tunnel you never noticed until now. It smells dank and the ceilng is no longer glowing green. Instead ice droplets of water fall from the ceiling. The only sense you can rely on is the sound of Grazer's footsteps, who is uncharacteristicly quiet.
Soon you emerge from the tunnel into a cavern. The ceiling is once again lit up, and you can see the group gathered a little ways away openly gaping at something.
Well....what's left of the group anyway. Seeing how many are left is a grim reminder of what is supposed to happen here.
Shaking the thought from your head, you walk over to them with Gray.
That's when you see what they're looking at.
Your eyes pop out of your head and your jaw falls open sligtly. Because what lies in front of you is absolutly blood curdling.
What you're looking at, is an extremely large, sleeping serpentine.
[[Gape at it.]]You gape at it with everyone else. It's huge! About the size of six school buses.
It's coiled up with it's head tucked under it's thick tail. It bears glistening, navy blue scales that litter it's whole body and a matching webbed dorsal fin that runs the length of it's back. Sharp fangs protude from it's long, tapered snout. In the dim light they glint with murderous intent.
You all slowly start to back away. However, Grazer being the graceless person he is, manages to trip over his untied shoelaces, forcing a fairly loud grunt fron his throat. He quickly covers his mouth. Eyes wide.
You all hold your breath as the serpentine stirs, shifting it's tail off it's head.
Letting the breath out, you all turn back torwards Grazer with fierce glares that could easily burn a hole through his thick skull.
"Sorry!" his voice echos off the walls. He covers his mouth again as the Serpetine shifts again.
[[Nix and Ash glare at him.]]"Keep your voice down thunder lungs. Are you trying to wake the Serpentine?" she whisper yells down at him.
"I didn't mean to-" but Gray gets cut off.
"Uh, Nix?" Ash attemptes to get her attention.
"I don't care if you meant to or not. Shut your trap before you wake the thing up," she quietly snaps, her green eyes ablaze.
"Too late..." Willow's voice trembles as she points a shaking finger in the direction of the Serpentine. Which is looking at you with glowing ember eyes with a black slit through the middle.
Your eyes grow wider than humanly possible. The Serpentine gives a ferocious roar, blowing all your hair like a strong gust of wind would.
Then it leaps at you.
[[Skatter.]]You all skatter away from the Serpentines deadly teeth. You quickly regroup as it prepares to come at you again.
"What do we do?!" Grazer wimpers.
"Well maybe if you didn't-" Ash starts.
"Hey! Now is not the time to be arguing! We'll all become snake chow if we don't think of anything," you butt in.
"Okay 'wise guy.' Then what do we do?" Nix asks mockingly.
"Well-" you begin.
"I'll distract it," Willow says suddenly. "You guys find a way out." She starts walking torwards the fuming Serpentine.
"No way! You'll be killed for sure!" Nix shouts.
"That was kind of my intention," The blonde replies. There's a strange fire in her eyes that silences Nix.
'She's okay with dying...what an odd girl...' you think.
With that, she starts walking torward the snake.
[[Run to far wall.]]
"Hey snake lady! Over here! See this delicious warm flesh rigt here? Come and get it!!" you hear Willow taunt. Followed by another angry roar.
You divert your attention back to finding a door out of here. You start along the wall, running your fingers over it's black, spiky, notched surface.
You hear Willow yelp behind you. But you dont dare look for fear of what you might see.
As you continue searching, you hear a girly yowl from beside you.
You turn to see what it is.
Ash is sitting flat on his butt and Grazer is trying not to laugh. Though he miserably fails.
"Dude that was the girliest sound I've ever heard!!" Grazer slaps his knee, howling with laughter.
'How he can laugh at a time like this, I'll never know' you think with a rueful shake of your head.
"Yeah, laugh it up," Ash grumbles with a light blush on his upper cheeks.
As he uses the wall to get up, you hear a small click.
Then a crevice starts to [[open]] in the wall.As a panel of rock slides open, you hear Willow yell, "Hurry up! I can't stall for much longer!!"
You all reluctantly head into the shadowy corridor, the weight of how many people you've left behind settling heavy on your shoulders.
You can't stop thinking, 'Why..?'
As you head through the corridor you tun back to Willow, who is wrapped up in the snakes tail. Slowly suffocating.
You say-
[[I'm sorry]] or [[say nothing.]]"I'm sorry," you say, wishing you'd said it to everyone else who was left behind.
She gives you a dry smile. "Go," she gives a jerk of her head torwards the doorway, ignoring your apology. "Save yourself."
With one more remorseful glance, you finally head into the corridor, letting the dark envelope you in it's emptiness.
[[Continue walking forward.]]You say nothing as she gives you a funky smile.
"I'll be fine. Don't worry about me," she says. Though her words don't sound very convincing.
"Now go, the others will be waiting," she tells you gently.
With a guilty conscious, you turn and shuffle into the darkness, where an unknown furture lies in wait.
[[Continue walking forward.]]You continue walking into the dark, trying to catch up with the others.
You feel your way through the narrow passage, really hoping there's no surprise holes you could fall into. You really don't feel like breaking a body part.
You start to hear whispers. They seem to fade in and out like talking on the phone around elecromagnetic fields. This starts to make you feel uneasy and your walking subconscously speeds up.
You glance around in the dark, seeing even darker shapes dance around the sides of your vision. You can't catch the shadows because right when you turn, they move farther away.
Just when you think you're about to go mad, you bump into something.
"Watch it!" A male voice hisses.
"Ash?"
"Yeah, it's me," he responds blandly into the dark.
"Seriously, talk with less emotion," you say sarcastically.
Ash simply scoffs.
"Why are we stopped?" you ask curiously.
"Cause Lippencott is attempting to climb the wall in front of us to get to that opening up there. Though he's not having much luck," you can detect a hint of amsument in his deep voice.
[[Look up.]]
Sure enough, there's an opening about 20 feet up the wall right above you. Bright sunlight spews through the square, but the light doesn't reach down here.
Then a river of curses reaches your ears. You can only assume it's Grazer.
"Dont hurt yourself," you hear Nix chide.
"Let me try," you say.
"Knock yourself out," Grazer huffs.
You step around everyone and walk up to the wall. You feel around.
It's sheer, but it has lots of footholds. Though, it'd still be pretty hard to scale without proper equipment.
You-
[[Bring your left foot up]] or [[Bring your right foot up]]
You bring your left foot up and secure it in a nook. You then haul yourself up while securing your right foot.
Then you bring your-
[[Right foot]] or [[left foot]] up.You bring your right foot up and secure it in a notch. But as soon as your put your weight on it, the rock crumbles and you fall on your butt.
[[Try other side|Bring your left foot up]]You then bring your left foot up, but as soon as your foot touches it, the rock crumbles and you fall down to the ground, landing on your butt.
[[Try again|Look up.]]You then bring your left foot up into a solid spot and haul yourself up again. You do this a few more times until you're about 15 feet up the wall. You can almost touch the light now. However, your legs and arms are burning like crazy, and you're not sure how much longer you can hold on.
"No way!! How are you doing that!?" Grazer shouts up to you, astonished.
"For starters, you have to have coordination," you say, the statment pointed torwards him.
"Ouch," you hear him laugh.
You manage to climb up the rest of the way and fall onto the little edge where the opening is. You let your skin soak up the sunlight for a second.
"Okay, who's next?"
[[Help]]
You realize there's a thick vine on the space you're sitting on. You use it to heave the others up, Grazer being the most difficult. When that's done, the opening is pretty crowded, so one by one you carefully climb down the other side, which is not nearly as steep. But of course, since Grazer has no grace whatsoever, he ends up tumbling halfway down.
"Don't worry, I have a hard head!" he assures.
"Tell me something I don't know.." Ash mumbles.
You all come off the rocks and into a grassy clearing surrounded by trees. It's simlair to the one you started in. Minus the dead part.
This clearing has lush green trees and foliage, and bright, exotic flowers. A thin layer of mist rolls over the ground, making your feet feel cold. Birds chirp, dragonflies buzz, and little balls of light drift lazily through the air.
But your admiring is soon interupted by a ear-piercing screech. It seems to be coming form near by. Everything falls into an eerie silence.
"Let's get out of here," Nix says, looking slightly uncomfortable.
"Agreed," Ash replies.
You all turn torwards a deserted path that just appeared out of nowhere.
Warily you [[follow it.]]
As soon as you enter the forest, everything gets significantly darker. You can't see through the canopy above you, and the trees are so closely bound together, you doubt even the thinest person would be able to fit through the gaps. Bright, all-seeing eyes also peer at you from the trees or from under bushes as you walk deeper in.
"I don't like this place..." Grazer says
"Yeah, I dont either. But you don't hear me complaining about it," Nix replies with a sniff.
Grazer goes silent.
Then the horrid screech sounds out again, this time much, much closer. Once again, the now familiar feeling of panic rises in your chest.
You all start to walk faster, however, something stops Ash in his tracks.
He hears someone calling his name.
"Do you guys hear that?"
"Hear what?" Nix asks.
"I don't hear anything," you and Grazer both reply.
"Forget it," Ash says, brushing it away as his mind playing tricks.
[[Continue on]]You continue on through the forest, but Ash hears his name again. It's a light, silken voice, light as the summer breeze.
You don't notice as he stops and faces the trees.
You continue on with the others, when you turn around and notice Ash isn't there.
"Guys! Where's Ash?!" you francitally ask.
"No, we thought he was behind you," says Nix.
"He was there a second ago and then gone the next!" you explain.
"Ash!!! ASH!! Where'd you go?!" Grazer and Nix call out to him.
You don't bother. Somehow you know he won't ever be found. He was talking about a voice calling his name. It's very possible it led him away into the forest.
Then you hear the screech again, this time coming from a few feet away. Nix and Grazer stop yelling and look at the rustling bush a little bit behind you. The screech sounds again, and a hidious beast jumps out from the bush.
[[Run.]]
You all turn tail and run faster than you've ever run before. You'll just have to forget about Ash, cruel as that sounds.
The beast screeches once again. You didn't really get a good look as it. All you saw were those evil, evil black eyes that stare into your soul.
"Hey, you ugly beef sandwhich!!! Go and eat someone your own size!" Grazer shouts over his shoulder, while tripping and nearly falling flat on his face in the process.
"Now is NOT the time to be provoking the rabid beast Lippencott!!" Nix yells at him.
The beast is gaining on you and fast. You can feel its hot, rancid breath on the back of your neck. You try and run faster.
Just when you think it's about to bite your head off, the ground opens up beneath you and you're falling into a dark abyss.
'DoN'T lOoK IntO ThE dArK' is what your shadow self had said. You suddenly feel your eyes zoom in on the closing darkness, and you manage to force your eyes close. You can hear Nix and Grazer screaming, or maybe they're your own screams. As you fall deeper into the abyss, you can hear the enraged bellow of the demonic beast from above.
[[Fall.]]
You continue to fall until you hit the ground with a soft thud. Grazer and Nix land beside you. Your eyes are still closed, but a voice from deep in your head tells you to open them. When you open your eyes, all you can see is black, yet at the same time, the other two are still visible. You can tell they're are as confused as you. So you all decide to look around. Not that there's much to look at.
Search [[left]] or search [[right.]]You search the left while the others search right. You look around for a bit. As expected, you find nothing.
Then you hear Grazer call out to you. "Yo $lastname! There's a door over here! Come look!"
[[Go over to them.]]
<<set $knife to false>>You search right while the other two go left. You walk around and find nothing. Just empty blackness. You're about to head back to the others when a glint of silver catches your eye.
You walk over to it and bend down. Halfway submerged in the black ground, is a stiletto switch blade. It looks like it's sinking further into the ground, so you quickly reach down, grab the handle, and give it a firm tug. It reluctantly gives and pops out with a wet sucking noise. You place the knife in your back jeans pocket and move your shirt to cover it.
"Hey $name, there's a door over here, come check it out!" You hear Nix holler.
As you head over to them, something shifts behind your $ec eyes. Something very dark and very wrong.
[[Go over to them.]]

Click [[Start|Begining]]You walk over to Grazer and Nix who are standing in front of an extremely white door that's harsh on the eyes. You all stare at it.
"Welp, it's now or never," Grazer says, freigning cherriness.
Nix scoffs, "Not like we have a choice."
You open the door and [[walk in.]]Inside the room is the same blinding whiteness as the door. Nothing else. Just white.
Ruefully Grazer says, "Wow, this room is brighter than my future."
You don't reply, because the sentence veils a painful truth no one likes to think about.
Once the you're all in the room, the door abrubtly slams closed and locks with an ominous click.
Then the voice from earlier you had completely forgotten about, rasps into the silence, causing you to jump out of your skin.
"Seems your the last three. I must say I'm quite surprized. Though you're not finished yet. One of you must stay behind in this room, and you all must pick who. The final two will proceed to the arena where the true winner is named. You have five minutes to decide.'
Then the voice is gone as soon as it had come. In it's wake an opening in the wall slides ajar, giving way to a smokey fog.
[[Decide.]]
"Really?! You're going to make US pick which one of us dies?!" Nix shouts into the stillness.
You stare at the ground.
"I'll do it," you say.
"No, I'll do it!" Grazer yells back.
The two of you bicker back and forth.
"Shut up! I'll do it. That's final!" Nix yells. Her voice warns it's not up for discussion, but still, a few seconds later, you're all screaming at each other until your faces turn red. Spit flys as you ferociously argue about who should stay behind. Suddenly, you hear the sound of grinding metal. You all look to see the door slowly start to slide closed. 'The five minutes is up already...that's just great.' you think.
Nix gives you and Grazer a hard shove. "I'm sick of arguing! Just go already! Before we all become trapped here," Nix pushes you again. You're completely numb, not even Grazer can say anything. You don't even know why you can't say anything. Why you can't fight back. It's like your throat is stuffed with cotton.
You stare at her once bright eyes, now a murky green, as she pushes the both of you through the door just as it hisses [[shut.]]You and Grazer stand in the gloom, still as statues.
Finally you snap out of it. You turn to Grazer, "We should go."
"Go where? It's just endless darkness here. There's no where to go!" His arms shoot out, gesturing to everything around him.
As if in answer to his outburst, a voice speaks in a hushed tone.
"Come this way," this voice isn't the same one from before. This one is more tranquil.
You and Gray share a look and decide to [[follow it.|dark]]
You walk in the direction of the voice as it continues to whisper to you.
Within, what you think, is a few minutes, you see a square opening up ahead. The voice stops whispering.
Once you and Grazer reach it, you walk through into what seems to be a battle arena.
It's a large grassy field, with medieval stone walls with turrets surrounding it. Massive gates stand tall and tightly sealed on the other side of the field, mocking you.
In the center is a writhering, dark mass with disturbingly vengeful yellow eyes. It has no shape to it, it merely floats there. It's really just an irrelevant image that has no purpose. You both warily walk up to it.
The voice from the begining speaks from the black mass.
"You two will battle until the one of you stops breathing. No one leaves until one of you is dead." Then it dissolves leaving only empty air where it once stood.
[[Face Grazer.]]You and Grazer stand looking at each other in the middle of the arena. You still don't understand any of this. You still have so many questions to why you're here in the first place. Out of all people, why were YOU brought here? You don't want to kill Grazer. Of course you don't. But you're supposed to fight. So fight you will.
<<if $knife is true>> An unfamiliar sensantion suddenly washes over you. It makes you feel different. Like you're not in control of your own body anymore. Whatever it is though, you're starting to like it.
You reach behind you and grasp the knife handle as discreetly as possible. Then you whip it out and brandish it in front of you. It gleams like liquid mercury and glitters viciously in the light.
"H-hey! W-where'd you g-get that?" Grazer stutters out, looking alarmed.
A crazed tone takes over your voice as dark, twisted things stir behind your $ec eyes. "I found it," you state simply, shrugging one shoulder while you twirl the silver blade around in your hand like a toy.
He starts to back away, terror evident in his bright eyes.
A sinister laugh escapes your throat and your mouth forms into a psychotic smile. You-
[[Lung at Grazer.]]
<<elseif $knife is false>> You continue to stare a Gray, wondering if he'll make the first move.
"Hey, you gonna come at me or what?" you ask nonchalantly, hiding how utterly terrified you are.
A sadistic smile creeps onto his face and he starts to laugh a slow and demented laugh. His once bright eyes are now a dark, stormy grey. He begins walking torwards you and then stops right in front of you.
Your eyes widen, wondering what's come over him. You barely have time to think before he lunges at your throat.
[[Dodge]]
<</if>>You lunge at Grazer, preparing to sink the knife into his sweet flesh, but all you manage to cut is air.
Slightly confused, you turn to see him running torwards the gates.
[[Run after him]] or [[let him run.]]You barely manage to dodge him. But before you can retaliate, he's coming at you again and barrels you to the ground. You kick and punch and yell, trying in vain to throw him off.
But he simply chuckles at your efforts.
"Let me go Gray!! Please! You don't have to do this!" you plead at him.
<<if $slap is true>> He scoffs, "Let you go? Tch, don't make me laugh. Why would I let you go when you slapped me in the face like a barbarian?" he looks at you with scorn.
"That's unfair! How the heck was I supposed to know it was you?!" You yell at him."
"Not my problem $lastname. Though, it is yours. Now, lights out." His hands wrap around your neck and he starts to squeeze the life out of you. You struggle under him, your attempts at loosening his hands are fruitless. A small tear slips from your eye as his hands squeeze tighter and tighter and the fight starts to leave your body.'You're not Grazer..." is one of your last thoughts. However, the last thing you see is his triuphant, vindictive smile as the world spirals into darkness. To which you will never return.
You lose. Go back and make different choices to see different results.
[[Try again?|Title]]
<<elseif $slap is false>> He hesitates for a moment, uncertainty in his eyes. It's just enough pause for you to make your move. Without warning, you fling yourself up, catching Grazer by surprise as you knock him down. You land on top of him with your hands clasped tightly around his neck. He trys to use his hands to get you off, but you use your knees to pin them down. You watch as the light slowly fades from his eyes and his struggles cease. Then his whole body goes slack. Leaving it dead and lifeless.
[[Stand up.]]
<</if>>You chase after him with lightning speed and easliy catch up to him. Though you let him reach the gates before you catch up fully. Once he gets there, he turns around and comes face to face with your sadistic smile.
He attempts a desparate punch at you, but you dodge with inhuman speed and tussle him to the ground. He screams out in frustration, trying to throw you off of him. But you've mysteriously become too strong. As you bring the blade to his throat, his hand lashes out, grabbing your wrist.
You fight againt him, slowly pushing the knife down inch by inch. The closer the blade gets to his neck, the wider your smile becomes.
The tendons in his arm bulge with the effort of keeping the knife away.
"$name, you don't have to do this!" he pants.
Your voice becomes as soft as a dandilion puff as you stare off into the distance, you'r face becoming peaceful. But theres a deadly undertone that turns Grazers heart to ice.
"Don't you see. It's either I kill you, or you kill me. And I'm sorry Gray, but I don't want to die," you frown slightly.
"I don't want to die either!" he shouts in your face.
"Oh, well," your face softens and your eyes become light again, and for a second, he foolishly thinks you'll let him go. But your face quickly darkens again, and that terrible smile comes back. "That's too bad."
[[Kill him.]]You let him run and watch motionlessly. When he gets to the gates, he turns around and sees you still standing where he left you. Then he blinks and you're gone. He frantically looks arond for any sight of you. After spotting nothing, he blinks again and you're right in front of him with that malicious smile.
He attempts a desparate punch at you, but you dodge with inhuman speed and tussle him to the ground. He screams out in frustration, trying to throw you off of him. But you've mysteriously become too strong. As you bring the blade to his throat, his hand lashes out, grabbing your wrist.

[[Kill him.]]With a hard thrust, you slice a deep cut across his throat. Dark red flows over his neck and stains the grass black. He coughs and sputters, his hands grasping his neck, more red gushing from the wound, staining his fingers red. He starts to violently shake and then abrubtly goes still. His eyes and mouth wide open.
You look at him with blank eyes, the strange feeling from before leaving your body. You feel cold as you-
[[Stand up.]]
The gates thunder open and beyond them lays inky blackness. You numbly walk through, dwelling on what you just did.
As soon as your encased in the shadows, the gates close once again. Then the voice speaks to you in a quiet, almost apprasing tone
"Congradulations. You've beat the maze. I bet you're wondering why you were even brought here in the first place. Why they all had to die. What the point even was. Here are your answers. The seven of you are special; You all share one unique quality, you were supposed to be a twin."
'What?! Twin???' you scream in your mind. Not believing your ears, you listen with rapt attention.
"But the twin died in the womb. For each and everyone of you. You were the ones who got all the nutrients, who took up all the oxygen. And guess what your parents did? They covered it up. They buried it deep and never told you. They locked it far away from the light. That is why you were all brought here. Those dopplegangers you faced in the portal hall were your twins that never got to live. When they died, they were born somewhere else. They were born here. A place where those who are forgotten come. They grew up here and awaited your arrival. Awaited the oppurtunity for all of you to parish so they could take your place. All except you, of course. Your twin isn't too happy about that. No matter, their time will come soon enough," the voice cryptically states.
"What are you talking about?" you ask, a slight quiver in your voice. This is really starting to scare you.
"Everyone who was left behind in the maze, their twin will take their place in life." The voice states, almost smugly.
"I don't believe you....This is nuts!!" you yell all around in the darkness.
It's voice becomes flat. "Well then, I guess you'll have to see for yourself."
Suddenly, the lights flick [[on.]]
After your eyes adjsut to the light, you realize you're back in your classroom. All the kids looked relieved, seeing as the lights just turned back on. 'Barely any time has passed? How is that possible? It felt like I was in that maze for ages...' you think darkly.
Suddenly you feel as if your being watched. You look up and see six pairs of dark eyes staring at you. The people who were left behind....
Pheo(nix), Ash, Gene, Blake, Willow,....Grazer. Except they're all looking at you with malevolent smiles. Their twin...they all look like their shadow selves from back in the mirror hall....
'Oh no, no... no... noooo! What the voice said is true...' you think in horror.
Suddenly the teacher tells everyone to sit down. All the dopplegangers go and sit down as you sit stiffly in your seat. Their eyes never leave you. You try to ignore them by looking out the window. Letting it all weigh down on you. Then suddenly, a familiar, unsettling feeling begins to stir from deep within. You meet your reflection in the window and notice a sinister smile emerge from your lips causing your heart to pound. 'Oh no.....'
This tastless, dull morning at Blakelake Middle isn't quite so tasteless and dull anymore. Though, it just got a whole lot darker.
