You spring to your feet and take off in a random direction. Glancing behind you every few seconds as you go.
You keep glancing when suddenly you see a flash out of the corner of your eye. A wall has swung out from a nearby tree. It's covered in spikes!
You can't slow yourself down in time to avoid it, and as you collide with the wall, the spikes impale you.
You collapse in a heap to the ground and a puddle of <div class="blood"> blood </div> forms around you.
[[What now?]]
You wake up in a room with no shoes. Who are you? Why are you here? There's a door and two windows, what do you do?
[[Go out the door]]
[[Look out a window]]
[[Lie down and try to remember what happened]]You smell something burning. Upon further investigation, there's a small hatch in the floor that the smell is coming from. What now?
[[Run out the door!]]
[[Open the hatch!]]You found your shoes! It looks like there's a note inside!
[[Open it and read it]]
[[Ignore the shoes and investigate your surroundings]]Which window?
[[Next to door]]
[[Back window]]As you bend down to pick up the note, you hear a 'WHOOSH' and see a flash of metal. An axe has swung down from the doorway. Any more time spent there, and you would have died!
Horrified, you open the note.
"Welcome to the Trials of the Just. You have been selected to participate in this trial to determine your worthiness to live. If you succeed you will be granted power and riches beyond your imagination.
However, if you lose, you will die a horrible, painful death.
Good luck."
You throw the note down. What now?
[[Rip up the note and throw it away]]
[[Keep the note]]You hear the door shut behind you and a snapping sound. Suddenly you feel a sharp pain in your back. Looking at the ground, you see a pool of <div class="blood"> blood </div> forming.
"You have failed."
[[What now?]]
You have been killed as a result of your choices. Try again if you wish to succeed.
[[Beginning]]You open the window. Looking outside, you see your shoes!
[[Go out the door]]
[[Look around more]]You walk over to a tall window opposite the door. As you turn the notch to open the window, there's a slight click sound.
FLASH
The window was rigged. All you hear is ringing. You reach up to feel your ear, but nothing happens. Your arm was taken off in the blast. Reaching up with the other hand, you feel that along with your arm, half of your skull has also been disintegrated by the blast.
You fall to a clump on the floor.
[[What now?]]You sprint out the door. By the time you see that the floor ends, you can't stop. You propel yourself outward over the ledge and come to a crash on the ground below.
[[What now?]]The hinges creak as the hatch opens, and a cloud of steam comes out. There's a ladder going down into a hidden room!
[[Use the ladder]]<<set $hasnote to false>>
You rip up the note and throw it into the wind.
[[Look around]]<<set $hasnote to true>>
Maybe you can use this note later? You tuck the note into your pocket.
[[Look around]]
Upon further investigation, you discover that the room you were in wasn't a room at all. However, it was a treehouse, and it looks like you could fit a football field between the ground and your feet. There's a ladder reaching the ground, and the trees all around you are covered in thick, long vines.
[[Go down the ladder]]
[[Opt for the vines]]As you begin your ascent down the seemingly never-ending ladder, you reach the halfway point. When you look up to check your progress, you see a shadow looming overhead from the treehouse. Wielding the axe, the shadow disconnects the ladder with one fell swoop. The ladder begins to tilt backwards. In a panic, you have to make a quick decision.
[[Hold on for dear life]]
[[Take a leap of faith]]You take a running jump from the treehouse onto the nearest vine. You swing down to the ground and your feet hit it with a thud. You begin running as fast as you possibly can. After a few minutes, you trip on something hard with a "CLANG." You look down to see a small hatch.
[[Open the hatch!]]As the ladder swings down, you grasp it tightly. Crashing through the trees, you slam down into the ground. To your surprise, a bush has broken your fall. You have a few cuts and bruises, but at least you're alive.
"What the hell!? Who was that!?" you think to yourself.
[[RUN!]]You jump off the ladder, propelling yourself outward. Luckily the vines were still accessible. You grab on mid-flight and swing hard around a large tree. You're feet collide with the ground and you look around. There seems to be a path nearby.
[[Walk the path]]
[[Walk parallel to the path]]As you're walking down the path, you hear a crashing in the trees above.
"THRUM"
An arrow whistles by, grazing your cheek. It burns! There must have been something on the arrowhead!
[[Get out of the path]]
[[Call out to the trees]]Double-click this passage to edit it.After you escape the arrows, you come upon a clearing. In the clearing there are two large plants. A large purple flower (it looks like a sunflower) and a tall bush with very long, thin leaves. Maybe if you use the plants, they can heal the poison in your wound!
[[Purple flower petals]]
[[Long thin leaves]]"Who's there? Why are you doing this!?"
"THRUM"
An arrow sprouts from your chest. Then another from your leg. You collapse to the ground, screaming in agony. The trees won't stop shooting. By the time you succumb to your wounds, your body is covered in a porcupine-esque layer of arrows.
[[What now?]]You take some purple flower petals and grind them between two rocks. Then you rub some on your cheek. Your flesh starts bubbling and turning green. You scream, but your mouth has already dissolved.
[[What now?]]You wrap some of the long thin leaves around your jaw. You feel a cool sensation. These leaves must be the antidote!
<<set $hasantidote to true>>
After some walking, you rediscover the path.
[[Walk parallel to the path]]Looking left and right, all you see is trees as far out as your vision reaches. You must be in a jungle, because there are tropical birds, tall trees, and you even see a sloth!
Suddenly, the wooden floor creaks behind you. You spin around to find a cloaked figure standing across from you. And there's a knife in his hand!
[[Charge at him!]]
[[Grab the curtain]]You run forward and make impact with the cloaked figure. You practically bounce off of him. He walks over to where you're collapsed on the floor. Lifting the knife, he plunges it into your side. You scream in agony. He repeats, plunging the knife into you over and over until there's a large puddle of blood surrounding you.
[[What now?]]
You grab the curtain on the window and yank HARD. It comes off along with the bar. You hurl the curtain at the cloaked man. He throws his arms up in defense, dropping the knife as the curtain covers him.
[[He's blind! Grab the Knife!]]You scramble forward and grab the knife. With one swift motion, you plunge it into the cloaked figure. He howls in pain. You pull the knife out and stab him again. The room has become soaked in his blood. He collapses to the floor gasping for air.
"Who are you!?" you scream. "Who am I? Why am I here!?"
The only response you get is a garble. Then the man loses conciousness.
[[Discard the knife]]
[[Hold on to the knife]]You drop the knife, horrified at what you've just done.
<<set $hasknife to false>>
[[Next]]There could be more of these guys around. You hold on to the knife just in case
<<set $hasknife to true>>
[[Next]]Suddenly, you smell something burning. Upon further investigation you find a small hatch in the floor.
[[Open the hatch!]]
[[Run out the door!]]
You go down the ladder. When you reach the bottom, there is a large computer on a desk in front of you. It seems to be a surveillance monitor. You sit down at the desk. When you make contact with the seat, the hatch above you closes and clicks. Turning to the computer screen, there is only one file.
[[Open the file]]Hello.
